Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearic Islands, which is also a popular holiday island along with neighbouring Mallorca and Menorca. Ibiza is not far away from mainland Spain, only about 90 kilometres. Another island is Formentera (from the Greek and named because of its rich pine forests at that time). They say, because of it’s balanced climate that Ibiza is the best of the Balearics. Ibiza has been inhabited for more than 3000 years. Already in 654 BC, the Carthaginians founded Ibiza Town, so this is one of the oldest cities in Europe and Spain. A very important commodity is salt. To this day, it is obtained from the salt marshes in the south of the island as well as salt from seawater. Go there once with your car hire Ibiza!
In Ibiza you can enjoy a quiet beach holiday in the beautiful bays such as Cala d'Hort and on long sandy beaches such as Playa d'en Bossa. But the nightlife and party atmosphere also has its charm. Many tourists prefer private accommodation in a holiday villa and use the days to discover Ibiza in a hire car. A large part of the holiday island is a nature reserve.
